These consoles form a pair and resemble decorative furniture from the Spanish royal palace of El Prado, outside Madrid. Their gold, green, pink, and white colours and refined carving are reminiscent of the porcelain produced by the famous Capodimonte porcelain factory built up in Naples by Charles of Bourbon (1716–1788). In 1759, when he became king of Spain as Charles III, he brought the best craftsmen from Naples with him to build the Buen Retiro porcelain factory in Madrid, influencing contemporary furnishing and design.
