A dou was a ritual vessel for offering food, shaped as a tall stand with a cover. It was a very common form in pottery and lacquer. This bronze example is decorated with fine interlaced patterns around the middle of the body, which may have been developed through stamping or repeated impressions in the mould, a form of mass production for this ornament.
