Damselflies at Compton Verney
It’s volunteer photograph time again, and this time yet again it’s some wonderful images of damselflies, which have all been photographed in three locations within the parkland at Compton Verney. We’re focusing afresh on butterflies, moths and damselflies and in a similar method to bird surveying, will be carrying out recording sessions with volunteers over the coming seasons.
Arthur Owens who knows the site well, snapped all these last week when the sunshine was thankfully in attendance at the same time as Arthur and his camera! We’re quietly confident with the identification of the those captured, but of course if you think otherwise, please do let us know with your alternative suggestions!
Our Top Three Damselflies this week:
If the ID on the below specimen is correct, it is on the edge of its range in this country making it relatively rare for our part of the world (south Warwickshire).

Almost as soon as stepping outside of his car, this Blue-tailed Damselfly was spotted on the bonnet!

And so there we have it, three sweet little damselflies to brighten our day. Mind you, with fairer days ahead we can expect many more specimens to come forward which we’ll hopefully be able to capture through our camera lenses and post to the blog. What a beautiful and diverse landscape we have at Compton Verney…
